Bainbridge Organic Distillers is a small family distillery on Bainbridge Island in Washington's Puget Sound, and the first USDA certified organic distillery in the state. Everything is made grain to glass, on site, and by hand. Yama begins as organic Alba and Full Pint barley grown in the Skagit Valley, twice pot distilled, then laid down to rest in virgin Japanese Mizunara oak shipped from Hokkaido. It is the only non-Japanese whiskey aged exclusively in that rare and notoriously difficult wood.
The name honors the village of Yama, founded on Bainbridge Island in 1883 by Japanese immigrants, and a portion of every bottle supports the effort to preserve that historic site. The whiskey has earned Craft Whiskey of the Year from Whisky Advocate and repeat honors as America's Best Grain Whiskey at the World Whiskies Awards. This is a bottle for the collector, the gifter, and anyone chasing a pour they have never tasted before.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Mango, vanilla, toasted sandalwood, tropical flowers, marzipan, and star anise.
- Palate: Nutmeg and clove, ripe pear, and toasty oak.
