A Quarter Century in Gascon Oak, From One of Armagnac's Great Family Houses

Delord 25 Ans d'Age spends a full twenty-five years in Gascon oak, and every one of those years shows in the glass. Layers of caramel, dried fruit, and baking spice give way to the prized nutty rancio that only long-aged Armagnac develops. This is a serious sipping brandy, deep and unhurried, from a family house that has been doing this since 1875.

It is not just old, it is decorated: 97 points and a Classic rating from Wine Enthusiast, and the Chairman's Trophy at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. Bottle for bottle, it drinks well beyond its price, and it arrives in a wooden presentation box that makes it an unforgettable gift.

🥃 Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Vanilla bean, caramel, and allspice, with dried raisin, a hint of cream sherry, and the nutty depth of rancio
  • Palate: Bold and layered, with oak, toffee, and espresso brushed by dark chocolate, cocoa, and clove
  • Finish: Long and gently dry, with a grip of tannin, walnut, and plum skin closing the exit

🍸 How to Enjoy

  • Neat: This is a spirit to savor. Pour into a snifter and give it time. The flavors deepen as it breathes.
  • A few drops of water: Softens the oak and lets the fruit and caramel come forward.
  • After dinner: Superb alongside dark chocolate, espresso, or a fine cigar.
  • Gift it: A 25-year-old, award-winning French brandy in a wooden presentation box. A memorable gift for a milestone or a serious spirits lover.

📖 The Story Behind the Bottle

Delord is a family-owned Bas-Armagnac house in Lannepax, deep in Gascony. Prosper Delord began as an itinerant distiller in 1875, carting his traveling pot still between farms. His son Gaston founded the permanent estate in 1925, and today great-grandsons Jerome and Sylvain distill, age, and blend exactly as their great-grandfather did. Their cellars hold Armagnacs more than a century old, and their 30-hectare vineyard lies in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac, widely regarded as the finest cru of the region.

This bottling draws on the four classic Armagnac grapes and rests a quarter century in Gascon oak before bottling. It is the house showing what real patience does to a spirit, and why collectors keep coming back to Delord.
