Ten Years in Gascon Oak, From a Family That Has Been Distilling Since 1875

Delord Napoleon is aged a minimum of ten years in Gascon oak, and it drinks like a warm welcome to the world of Armagnac. Dried fruit and toasted oak wrapped in a smooth, spiced sweetness, it is rich enough to reward a serious brandy lover yet approachable enough for anyone taking their first step past bourbon. This is the good stuff, from one of Gascony's historic family houses, at a price that feels almost unfair.

A longtime Wine Enthusiast Best Buy, it is one of the easiest ways to understand why Armagnac, France's oldest brandy, has such a devoted following. Pour it after dinner and it does the rest.

🥃 Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Prune, plum, and brandied cherry, layered with cocoa, toasted oak, and a whisper of leather
  • Palate: Dried fruit and vanilla up front, followed by clove, cinnamon, and buttery nuts, with a gentle rancio depth
  • Finish: Long, smooth, and lightly spiced, closing with dark honey and soft oak

🍸 How to Enjoy

  • Neat: Pour into a snifter or Glencairn and let it open for a few minutes. This is aged Armagnac at its most expressive.
  • On the rocks: A single large cube softens the spice for an easy after-dinner pour.
  • After dinner: A natural match for dark chocolate, dried fruit, or a good cigar.
  • Gift it: A ten-year-old French brandy from a historic family house, in a bottle that looks the part. Ideal for the brandy lover or the bourbon drinker ready to branch out.

📖 The Story Behind the Bottle

Delord is a family-owned Bas-Armagnac house in Lannepax, deep in Gascony. Prosper Delord began as an itinerant distiller in 1875, carting his traveling pot still from farm to farm. His son Gaston established the permanent estate in 1925, and today great-grandsons Jerome and Sylvain distill, age, and blend their eaux-de-vie exactly as their great-grandfather did. Their 30-hectare vineyard sits in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac, widely regarded as the finest cru of the region.

The Napoleon bottling blends eaux-de-vie aged a minimum of ten years, drawn from the four classic Armagnac grapes. It is the house at its most accessible: genuine, well-made, aged brandy that does not ask you to spend a fortune to enjoy it.
