Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Rye: One Barrel, Low Proof, On Purpose

Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye is bottled from a single hand selected charred white oak barrel, not a blend, at 84.8 proof (42.4% ABV). Distilled in Louisville to the Michter's pre Revolutionary War quality standards dating to 1753. Mashbill is 53% rye, 33% corn, 14% malted barley, aged four years, then mellowed by Michter's signature filtration.

Rye is America's oldest whiskey style, and Michter's shears the rye grain before mashing to pull more flavor out of it. The 53% rye mashbill is a true rye rather than a barely legal 51%, and the corn keeps it from going austere.

About the proof. 84.8 is low by current standards and that will put some people off. It should not. What you get instead is a whiskey where the grain and the barrel are legible rather than buried under alcohol heat, and it is a genuinely rare thing: almost nobody bottles a single barrel rye at this proof, because the category has gone all in on barrel strength. If you have been drinking 115 proof ryes and your palate is tired, this is the reset.
