The Glenlivet has been distilling in the remote Livet valley since 1824, and the 18 Year Old is where the distillery's house style stops being merely easy and starts being serious. Batch Reserve is assembled from a marriage of cask types: first and second fill American oak for orchard and tropical fruit, and ex sherry European oak for spice, dried fruit and depth. Master Distiller oversight, not a formula, decides when each batch is ready.
The result is the most awarded expression in The Glenlivet range and one of the most reliable gifts in single malt Scotch. Elegant enough for someone who drinks Speyside every week, generous enough for someone opening their first 18 year old. The navy and gold presentation carton needs no wrapping.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Ripe apple and pear, orange marmalade, toasted almond and a lift of vanilla oak.
- Palate: Rich and rounded. Baked apple, raisin and dried apricot over cinnamon spice and creamy butterscotch.
- Finish: Long and warming, with sweet oak, soft spice and a hint of dark chocolate.
How to Enjoy
- Neat in a Glencairn glass, ten minutes of air before the first sip.
- One large ice cube to open the fruit and stretch it out after dinner.
- Two drops of water to release the sherry spice without thinning the body.
